Technologists Benjamin Kyalo, Purity Gakii, and Pauline Makenzi from the department got hands-on training on the use of Cavity Ring-Down Spectroscopy (CRDS) at the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Land Resource Management & Agricultural Technolog on 27th and 28th March 2025 by Jan Wozniak, a field application scientist from PICARRO, Netherlands.
CRDS is state-of-the-art trace gases measuring equipment that forms part of quick and real-time GHGs measurements. Notably, this is the first Model of its kind in Eastern Africa. Through the LARMAT department, the faculty has acquired this equipment courtesy of the collaborative work with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), led by Dr. Oscar Koech, who serves as the Project Scientific Consultant for the Regional Project (RAF 5090). The iconic state-of-the-art equipment will support climate and environmental research works to address climate change effects and thus providing data that will guide strategies and practices aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change.
